Box 270 <br /> Stockton , California 95201 <br /> Letter Report <br /> Ground Water Assessment <br /> Carnation Can Comany P ant Site <br /> Stoccton , California <br /> Dear Mr. Sershon: <br /> The following report summarizes the results of the assessment by Canonie <br /> Environmental Services Corp. (Canonie ) of ground water possibly contami- <br /> nated by volatiles at Carnation Can Company' s (Carnation ) plant in <br /> Stockton , California. <br /> Introduction <br /> Canonie was retained by Carnation to perform a preliminary assessment of <br /> the ground water potentially contaminated with volatiles. In 1983, <br /> Carnation purchased a plant in Stockton , California. Sludges found inside <br /> the building were tested for volatiles. Subsequent to the confirmation of <br /> volatiles in the sludges, Carnation decided to sample the ground water in <br /> proximity to a dry well (sump) located outside the building (Figure 1 ) . <br /> This sump had apparently been used by the previous owner for waste disposal . <br /> Pending the results of the ground water analyses , soil which was collected <br /> during drilling was also to be tested. <br /> Well Installation <br /> A 25-foot boring was drilled with a hollow stem auger within two feet of <br /> the sump ( refer to enclosed boring log for lithology and water level ) . <br /> During drilling , soil samples were collected by split spoon at 2 feet, 5 <br /> feet, 10 feet, 15 feet, and 20 feet.
