CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Contamination was found in boring 3 soil and water samples
and in the boring 1 water sample. The soil samples from boring
3 indicated an increase of contamination (motor oil) with
depth, at least to the 12 foot level . Further study in the
area east of the tank is necessary to determine the extent of
the contamination in that direction.
No samples have been collected from the soil or water
directly beneath the excavation area nor from the soils west
and north of the pit. A "zero line" of contamination cannot be
drawn with the present data as required by regulation.
Calculations to determine the amount of contaminants
present in the soil and groundwater are impossible at this
time . The areal extent of the contaminated zone has not been
defined and even a rough estimate would be speculative.
Continued soil and water sampling is recommended to
delineate the contaminated zone. This should include the
necessary borings required to define the north and west
contamination perimeters and to further define the east
perimeter as indicated on the attached drawing. Property
owners adjacent to the site will be contacted to seek access
and permission to drill prior to further action. We will
notify Canaco of the exact dates prior to resumption of
drilling, and of conditions as we encounter them.
10
