The above stated theory has been substantiated with data obtained
from other groundwater investigations being conducted in the vicin-
of the Stockton Scavenger facility. In September of 1987, the
subsurface flow at 1111 Navy Drive, one block east of the site,
was determined to be flowing towards the northwest and located at
18 ft. below ground surface. July '1987 -measurements of ground-
water levels at 3515 Navy Drive, west of the site,, were found to
be 11 feet below ground surface with subsurface flow trending to
the NW. This data was obtained from monitoring wells installed at
these sites designed to address similar .concerns as those at the
Stockton Scavenger site.
The proposed locations of the two monitoring wells at the facility .
are shown in Figure 2. Both wells will be within 10 feet of the
excavation. This configuration will not only detect possible
groundwater contamination but also serve to verify the direction
of flow, on a two -dimensional basis, with the data given above.
Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. If your
agency or the RWQCB 'has any questions about the enclosed informa-
tion please feel free to contact me at any time.
Sincerely,
Michael Caprio
Staff Hydrogeologist
MAC
cc: Jim Walsh
MA
JUN 2 tx
ENVIROMENTAL HEALTH
FERMIT/SERVICLS j
