Section No 5 <br /> Revision No 0 <br /> Date September 5, 1991 <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br /> 5 0 QUALITY ASSURANCE OBJECTIVES <br /> Quality assurance is the total integrated program for assuring the <br /> reliability of monitoring and measurement data Quality Control is defined <br /> as the methodology employed to assess the quality assurance program For <br /> air, soil, and groundwater sampling programs, quality assurance means that <br /> all samples will be collected, analyzed and reported in accordance with a <br /> well-defined set of procedures In general terms, the quality assurance <br /> objectives for this project are that <br /> ■ Data should be accurate in terms of their agreement with reference <br /> or true values <br /> a Data should be precise in that there is agreement among individual <br /> measurements made under similar conditions <br /> o Data should be comparable to prior relevant data for evaluation <br /> purposes <br /> o Data should be reproducible under similar conditions <br /> ■ Data should be representative of the conditions actually present at <br /> the site <br /> Data should be sufficient for appropriate evaluation of the remedial <br /> alternatives proposed for final remediation at the site <br /> Quality assurance objectives are often stated in terms of the precision, <br /> accuracy, and completeness of the data generated Precision is the degree of <br /> agreement among individual measurements made under prescribed conditions <br /> Comparison of samples run in duplicate provides a good indication of <br /> precision Accuracy is the difference between an average value and true <br /> value, when the latter is known or assumed Accuracy for some methods is <br /> . determined by instrument specifications Comparison of known concentrations <br /> 5-1 <br />
