■ When working on lead, zinc, or other material that could generate harmful fumes, <br /> adequate ventilation and exhaust devices will be provided When ventilation is <br /> not practical or feasible, respiratory protection will be used <br /> ■ A qualified supervisor will inspect the work site before any use of welding or <br /> ' cutting equipment to ensure that all combustibles in the work area have been <br /> removed or otherwise protected from the welding <br /> or cutting work He or she will also assure that a current Hot Work Permit (see <br /> Attachment 3 in Appendix B of this Plan) is in effect at the designated job site <br /> 10 3 2 Arc Welding <br /> IN Frames of welding machines operated from electric power sources must be <br /> properly grounded <br /> ■ When welding, employees must wear adequate masks or hoods with proper eye <br /> protection, gloves, and leather aprons as minimum protection, these will be <br /> supplemented with hard hats, safety shoes, and other protective gear when <br /> warranted <br /> is All employees and passersby near the welding area will be protected from eye <br /> flash-burns by use of partitions, screens, or other appropriate methods <br /> ■ Welding cables, cords, and leads must be neatly secured so as not to cause <br /> tripping <br /> I <br /> ■ Electrode stubs will immediately be disposed of in a safe container <br /> 1033 Oxygen/Acetylene Welding and Cutting <br /> ■ The safety procedures for use of gas cylinders specified in Section 10 2 apply <br /> ■ Oxygen cylinders must be stored at least 20 feet away from those containing any <br /> fuel gas <br /> ■ Where stored inside, oxygen cylinders must be separated from those containing <br /> fuel gases by a 5-foot high, noncombustible barrier with a fire rating of at least <br /> one half hour, or they must be separated by a 20-foot distance <br /> ■ Acetylene must not be used for welding or cutting at pressures exceeding 15 psig <br /> ■ Acetylene cylinder valves will not be opened more than one full turn, and the <br /> wrench will be left on the valve stem so that the valve can be closed quickly if <br /> 1 necessary <br /> 10-7 REV 4192-EGI <br /> III re <br />
