5.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The conclusions of the investigation are as follow:
1. Analytical laboratory results from water and soil sampling at the St. Francis Motel site
have indicated that chemicals commonly associated with illegal drug lab operations are
not currently present in the effluent or soil beneath the septic system at concentrations
that are considered as hazardous levels as defined by California or federal law. No threat
to underlying groundwater is present based on soil sampling results.
2. Acetone, chloride and 2-butanone(MEK)were found at trace concentrations in both soil
and effluent samples. These substances may or may not have originated from illegal drug
lab waste product being disposed of in the motel septic system. These chemicals could
potentially have originated from disposal of cleaning agents or other household products
that have left trace concentrations of these chemicals in the soil and effluent.
3. The motel septic system is currently well documented by maps and photographs. The
system is currently working better than it has in quite some time.
4. All aspects of the motel septic system currently meet code for San Joaquin County
requirements.
The recommendations of this report are as follow:
1. The St. Francis Motel has met all of the requirements that PHSEHD has directed for
completion of the soil investigation. The site can be closed as this time as no further
action is warranted.
Main\Environmentallst.FrancisMotel\Report\Report05252006.wpd 17
