Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
1 INTRODUCTION
Stockton Newspapers, Inc. (Stockton Newspapers) requested Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
(Kennedy/Jenks) to perform a Phase II Soil Investigation at the property located at
530 East Market Street in Stockton, California (subject property).
1.1 Background
In 1989, Stockton Newspapers replaced an existing gasoline underground storage tank
(UST) with a 10,000-gallon gasoline UST. The size of the UST removed in 1989 is not
known. Stockton Newspapers has requested that Kennedy/Jenks drill two borings in the
immediate vicinity of the existing UST to evaluate if soils have been impacted by petroleum
hydrocarbons (PHCs). The location of these areas are presented on Figure 1.
1.2 Objective and Scope Of Work
The objective of the Phase II investigation is to evaluate if soils in the immediate vicinity of
the UST have been impacted by PHCs. The extent of impact, if any, may not be fully
defined by this Phase II investigation. Further investigation may be required to delineate
impacted areas, if identified. To accomplish this objective, the following field techniques
will be used:
• Conduct a geophysical survey to assess the presence and configuration of the
existing UST and associated piping.
• Advance soil borings to collect subsurface soil samples for field screening and
laboratory analyses.
is\job\96\966070.01\workplan\text.doc 1
