As stated previously, the northeast section of the subject site was
subleased to ST Services in 1979. All equipment installed and
operated on this section of the parcel was the responsibility of ST
Services. Unocal has no responsibility for any of this equipment,
nor do we have any records of the equipment installed. Our previous
statements pertaining to this equipment were based solely on visual
observations of our consultants. Please contact ST Services for
detailed information pertaining to their use of this property.
2 . As stated in our previous correspondence, it is our understanding
that the two former underground tanks at the site stored diesel fuel
for use in the facility's vehicles. Available sales records indicate
what products were sold from this location, but do not clearly
indicate if the products came from ST Services pipeline, on site
storage tanks, or drum sales. Chlorinated compounds were very rarely
stored at commercial bulk plants by Unocal and there is no record of
them ever being sold from this site.
Kleinfelders's September 1, 1988 report states that stoddard solvent
was stored in the 10, 000 gallon underground storage tank. It is not
known how this information was obtained. However, according to the
various reference materials and sources (i.e. , NIOSH Guide, MERCK
INDEX, Stoddard Solvent Material Safety Data Sheet, etc. ) that we
have investigated, stoddard solvent is a petroleum distillate that
