The site
.. investigation was required by both the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central
Valley Region, and the San Joaquin County Public Health Services Division (the agency issuing
the permit for drilling). Field investigation methods conformed to the Tri-Regional Board Staff
Recommendations for Preliminary Evaluation and Investigation of Underground Storage Tank
sites.
. On January 31, 1992, an IT field geologist monitored the drilling of four (4) soil borings
advanced to 20 feet below ground surface. The borings were drilled to characterize the soil
types, and soil quality of the area surrounding the two (2) 10,000 gallon fiberglass underground
diesel storage tanks. The tanks and associated piping are temporarily idled by Yellow Freight
System, Inc., see attached Figure 1.
Spectrum Exploration, Inc. using a mobile B-61 drilling rig, was employed to perform all
drilling operations under supervision of an IT field geologist. A seven (7) inch diameter hollow
stem auger was used to drill all four (4) soil borings to the target depth of twenty (20) feet below
ground surface. Undisturbed soil samples were obtained at five (5) foot intervals, and the
deepest and/or most contaminated was submitted to the analytical laboratory for testing. Soil
samples submitted to the laboratory were obtained from soil boring #1 (sample SB1-4)at a depth
.. of twenty (20) feet, from soil boring #2 (sample SB2-4) at a depth of twenty (20) feet, from soil
boring #3 (sample SB3-2) at a depth of ten (10) feet, and from soil boring #4 (sample SB4-4)
at a depth of twenty (20) feet below ground surface, see attached soil boring logs.
Regional Office
. 4585 Pacheco Boulevard •Martinez, California 94553 • 510-372-9100
IT Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of International Technology Corporation
r
