at a depth of 84 feet bgs in the downgradientAirection. The existing water supply well
l on site was also tested and no detectable-..levels of petroleum hydrocarbons were
.: _
detected.
The soil at the site is classified as Stockton clay (adobe) (USDA 1951). Stockton soil
 I
is formed from transported material of mixed origin and occupies nearly level or very
gently sloping plains. Erosion is not a problem but because of the basin position, some
areas are subject to flooding. Internal drainage is poor as a result'of the heavy-textured
soil which becomes plastic and swells when wet; and movement of moisture is further
retarded because the substratum is comparatively impervious. When the soil is dry it
forms cracks. When the soil becomes wet the cracks close and the soil is then only
slowly pervious to moisture (USDA 1951).
i
Groundwater at the site is encountered at approximately 84 feet bgs near the former
t tanks, south of the truck scales and at approximately 84.5 feet bgs at the well located 65
feet in an easterly direction from the former tank area. Seasonal groundwater high is
reported at 65 feet bgs. The.groundwater flow direction beneath the site is toward the
east-southeast.
2.2 CLIMATE
Thelevation
e at the site is approximately 30 feet above sea level with an annual ,
c; precipitation average for the Stockton area at 11.69 inches of rain with the majority of
the rain occurring from November through March (NOAA 1991). The average annual
temperature is 62.1' F. The weather data are from the -Stockton Weather Station
located at 37° 54' latitude and 121'0 15W' longitude at an elevation of 22 feet above sea
level.
C
2.3 LAND USE/DEMOGRAPHICS
The site is located east of Highway 99, a major interstate linking the northern and
southern sections of the State of California.
