2. Preparation of the exterior tank wall for sensor
attachment. This involves cleaning several two-inch
diameter circles around the tank perimeter. Sensors
are attached to the wall and cabling routed to the van;
3. Calibration of the sensor array;
4. Collection and processing of acoustic data for
2-4 hours. Upon completion, plant personnel are
informed of availability of tank for continued use;
5. Post-monitoring analysis and display of data. This
is completed on site and recorded data are stored
for later review if needed;
6. Source location printouts of the location of any leak(s)
in the subject tank with indications of leak intensity; and
7. Submit report describing test results, test methods,
and tank calibration data.
Test Personnel And Equipment
The Pelagos AE tank-test systIem was developed by Pelagos Corporation
specifically for detection and lodation of tank-floor leaks. Our research
and development personnel have more than ten years experience in
acoustic-emission-system design aid application. Our test personnel are
highly trained. The crew chief of every test crew is certified for AE leak
testing and has completed trainin as outlined by the American Society of
Nondestructive Testing.
In addition to Qur own tank-test procedures, Pelagos conforms to the
following procedures of the American Society for Testing and Materials
(ASTM) , as applicable:
E 650-78 Recommended Practice for Mounting Acoustic
Emission Contact Sensors ; and
E 750-80 Practice for Measuring the Operating
Characteristics of Acoustic Emission Instrumentation.
