SECOR
9.0 OZONE SPARGE SYSTEM OPERATIONAL DATA
9.1 Ozone Sparge (OS) System Configurations
Two OS systems (termed East System and West System) operate at the site. The East
System, which is located east of the BP and Time Oil facilities (Figure 1A), began operation on
September 21, 2004. This system is comprised of a total of 26 "A" Zone OS wells (OS-32
through OS-57) and 8 "B" Zone OS wells (OS-96 through OS-166) that are connected to a 5-
pounds per day ozone generator, a compressor rated to deliver 15 standard cubic feet per
minute (scfm) of ozone at 40 pounds per square inch (psi), pneumatic actuated ball valves,
manifolds, and a timer. The East System is capable of delivering 15 scfm of ozone to four or
five OS wells simultaneously through piping connected to each individual OS point. The OS
system piping is equipped with a manifold that will allow for the adjustment of the individual well
injection rates.
The West System, which is located at and in the vicinity of the Tesoro Terminal (Figure 1A),
began operation on November 15, 2004. This system is connected to 31 "A" Zone OS wells
(OS-1 through OS-31) and 8 "B" Zone OS wells (OS-1B through OS-813). The West System is
constructed with the same specifications as described above for the East System.
• 9.2 Summary of the Performance of the OS Systems
During the first quarter 2006, SECOR obtained operational data for the East System during
approximately twice-a-month operation and maintenance visits (January 27, February 17,
February 23, and March 10, 2006). During the time period of December 13, 2005 through
March 10, 2006 the East System was 90 percent operational, injected approximately 392
pounds of ozone into the subsurface, and an estimated 131 pounds of hydrocarbons were
destroyed. On the March 10, 2006 site visit, it was discovered that the air compressor had
seized. Replacement of the air compressor and restart of the East System is scheduled for the
second quarter 2006. SECOR obtained operational data for the West System during an
operation and maintenance visit on January 3, 2006. During the period from December 13,
2005 through January 3, 2006, the West System was 100 percent operational, injected
approximately 105 pounds of ozone into the subsurface, and an estimated 35 pounds of
hydrocarbons were destroyed. The West System was shut down on January 3, 2006 because
standing water around the West System wells was infiltrating into the subsurface. The West
System is anticipated to be restarted in second quarter 2006 after the standing surface water is
gone. Performance data for the East and West Systems and remedial system field data sheets
are included in Appendix I. Operational data for the East and West Systems are summarized in
Tables 7 through 10.
9.3 Ozone Injection Monitoring Program
In accordance with SECOR's ozone injection monitoring program, petroleum hydrocarbon
trends are evaluated on a quarterly basis in select "A" zone and "B" zone monitoring wells, listed
• in the table below.
STTC 1Q06 Final Report 17 May 1,2006
770T.43673.12.0002
