' aRR, FRIEDMAN & BRUYA, 1*
ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTS
GASOLINE FINGERPRINT COMPARISON
BY GC/SID
Four peaks were selected for this comparison. The four have
been tentatively identified as heptanes by retention time,
but we are awaiting arrival of pure material to generate
' standards from before final assignment is made. The
heptanes were chosen because of their published constancy of
relative abundance ratios, along with their uniqueness to
original stocks from which the product was distilled. The
four peaks were chosen and compared for relative abundance
by dividing the area of the chromatogram produced by each
one by that produce by the first eluting heptane (A) . The
' results are tabulated below:
' Abundance Relative To A
A
Sample #k B D
' T-3
3-18-88 1 . 00 1 . 61 1 . 13 1 . 01
' T-11
3-18-88 1 . 00 1 . 67 1 . 24 1 . 11
' T-12
3-18-88 1 . 00 1 . 66 1 .21 1 . 08
MO Gas
' Military Standard 1 . 00 5. 63 3 . 93 0 . 169
Ref Gas $1 1 . 00 1 . 40 0 . 725 0 .596
Time Oil Co. 1 . 00 2 . 69 1 . 97 0 , 429
3-7-88
' It is clear from the results listed above, that the product
removed from the wells on 3-18-88 were far more like each
' other than they were like any of the controls. Furthermore,
they showed less variation between each other than did the
controls amongst themselves. The virtual lack of
' dissimilarity between the samples taken on 3-18-88 suggests
that they are all a single gasoline, or that any mixing of
multiple stocks had been thoroughly accomplished by 3-18-88 .
