' Significant contamination by new gasoline was found only in
' test holes TS-8, TS-9 , and TS-10 . These test holes border the
Time Oil property and Southern Pacific pipeline right-of-way.
' Hydrocarbon product samples collected from these test holes, SP-
3. and Tesoro product samples were analyzed by modified EPA
methods 8015 and 8020 . The results show that the product in SP-
3, TS-8, and TS-9 is unleaded gasoline, while TS-10 contains a
mixture of leaded gasoline and diesel fuel . The analyses were
compared to laboratory gasoline product standards and statis-
tically evaluated. Results for test holes TS-8 and TS-9 show
close correlation with SP-3 and the laboratory product stand-
ard. These results indicate that the product found in test holes
SP-3, TS-8, and TS-9 is new gasoline. The product found in TS-8
and TS-9 contained lower levels of benzene, toluene, xylene, and
ethyl benzene, indicating that the material likely migrated onto
the Tesoro property from the Southern Pacific pipeline right-of-
way.
Only test hole TS-10 contained a significant amount of
diesel fuel and gasoline. Data compiled by Time Oil show that
diesel fuel was found on their property in a test hole located
' nearest TS-10, which indicates that the contamination detected is
' migrating from the Time Oil property onto the Tesoro site.
Figure 4 illustrates benzene concentrations in water samples
collected from the test holes and monitoring wells . Significant
contamination was found only in the test holes bordering the
Southern Pacific pipeline right-of-way and the Time Oil property
(TS-8, TS-9, and TS-10) . This is consistent with finding float-
ing hydrocarbons in these holes .
- 17 -
