My comments are presented below.
1. SFPP should compile all ground water elevation data and determine ground water flow directions
from these data. This information will indicate if other areas of the facility need coverage in
monitoring the ground water quality. Although the regional ground water flow direction is
generally from the northwest to southeast, data presented in SFPP's April 1989 report entitled
Ground Water Investigation and Environmental Assessment showed ground water flowed to the
northeast.
2. The monitoring data and the calculation used to determine the vertical downward gradient
should be included in the report.
3. The report recommends drilling additional soil borings north of the manifold/prover loop area
and in the vicinity of monitoring wells M-4 and M-7, installing a ground water monitoring well
upgradient of the manifold/prover loop, and preparing a remedial action plan. I concur with
these recommendations.
By, 14 January 1994 please respond to the above comments and submit a work plan with a time
schedule to implement the recommendations presented in the report.
