Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Re: Shell Oil Distribution Facility
3515 Navy Drive, Rough & Ready Island
Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Cotulla:
As you are aware, our facility sustained a release of leaded motor gaso-
line through a leak in transfer line at our truck loading rack. The
loss was discovered on March 27, 1986 while sampling an observation well
(twelve had been installed last year) down gradient of rack. Pumping
through suspect line was discontinued immediately. Repairs to line were
completed on April 1, 1986.
On April 3, 1986, three more wells down-gradient of discovery well were
installed - no product hydrocarbons were discovered. Recovery operation
continues by pumping water and product from well through plant oil/water
separator. Samples of this discharge water and groundwater samples from
ten wells will be taken and analyzed for soluble components, i .e. , benzene,
toluene, xylene and ethyl-benzene. Upon receiving data, we will forward
to your office.
Very truly yours,
`k
H. J.
