Shell originally proposed an Oxygen Releasing
Compound pilot study, but based on additional evaluation of alternative remedial technologies for
oxygenating groundwater, the Work Plan proposes the installation of 12 probes to inject oxygen near
monitoring wells MW-20, MW-21, and MW-22. In addition to the 12 probes, Shell proposes to install
three temporary monitoring wells to evaluate the pilot study. The Work Plan proposes to monitor eight
wells for baseline, startup, and monthly monitoring for the three-month pilot study.
Regional Board staff concurs with the Work Plan. Shell needs to include status updates of the pilot
study in the quarterly monitoring reports and provide a pilot study evaluation in a Feasibility Study due
by 3 June 2005. The Feasibility Study must include a summary of all remedial alternatives evaluated,
well installation information, sampling results, and a schedule for a Cleanup Plan, and should be
prepared in accordance with the attached Items To Be Included In A Feasibility Study/Remedial Options
Evaluation Report.
