The work plan proposes to drill two
borings east of monitoring wells (MWs) 11 and 17 next to the eastern perimeter fence of the facility.
Specifically, the work plan recommends to do the following: (1) Install the two borings described above,
(2) Collect soil samples for logging and possible chemical analysis every five feet or less, (3) Submit
two soil samples per boring for laboratory analysis, (4) Install a 4-inch groundwater MW in each boring,
and(5) Develop and survey the MWs and incorporate them into the monitoring program.
My comments on the work plan are presented below.
1. The work plan should specify that the soil samples are going to be analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons as diesel and gasoline; benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes; and oxygenates
including methyl tertiary butyl ether.
2. If the MWs are completed within a month of the regular quarterly sampling event, then Equilon may
sample the newly-installed MWs during the quarterly sampling event. If not, Equilon should sample
the MWs within a week of completion.
The work plan is hereby approved provided the above comments are incorporated. By 29 August 2000,
please submit a schedule to: (1)Implement the work plan and (2) Submit the investigation report. The
investigation report should be prepared in general accordance with Attachment 1,Items To Be Included
In A Site Assessment Report.
California Environmental Protection Agency
pia Recycled Paper
