The plan has been prepared in response to your
April 15 and June 3, 1992 letters and our June 23, 1992 meeting with the
California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region.
The proposed scope of work involves collection of approximately 12 to 15
hydropunch groundwater samples to be followed by drilling and installing
up to 4 shallow monitoring wells. The groundwater chemistry data
obtained from the hydropunch sampling program will be used to determine
optimum locations for the monitoring wells. The following sections
describe the scope of work and field procedures for the hydropunch and
well installation program.
SCOPE OF WORK - PLUME DELINEATION
Hvdropunch Sample Collection
Harding Lawson Associates (HLA) will supervise collection of
approximately 12 to 15 hydropunch groundwater samples on the eastern
edge and just downgradient (south) of the Shell plant. The hydropunch
sampling will involve collection of insitu groundwater samples by
pushing the hydropunch sampling tool to a depth of approximately 20 feet
below ground surface (bgs) and opening the hydropunch to allow
groundwater to flow into the sampler. The hydropunch sampler is then
withdrawn and the water sample is decanted into sample bottles.
Prior to drilling, underground utilities and obstructions will be
cleared using geophysical methods. All downhole sampling equipment will
be steam-cleaned prior to collecting each sample. After sample
Engineering and 7655 Redvood Boulevard, PO. Boz 578.
