since that time. A detailed description of GWE operations is presented in The RETEC
Group,Inc.'s (RETEC's)January 30,2004 report.
1994 Subsurface Investigation: During July 1994, Pacific Environmental Group (PEG)
investigated the horizontal extent of petroleum constituents in soil and grab
groundwater. Soil, vapor, and groundwater samples were collected from 19 sample
points (G-1 through G-19)located on and off site (PEG,August 1994).
During December 1994, PEG further investigated the horizontal extent of petroleum
constituents in soil and groundwater. Soil, vapor, and groundwater samples were
collected from seven sample points (G-20 through G-26)located off site.
1995 Subsurface Investigation: During July 1995, PEG installed well MW-28. PEG also
destroyed deep well DW-1 due to concern of poor well construction and replaced it
with well DW-2.
1996-2001 Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) Operations: SVE began on April 16, 1996 and
operated intermittently until May 23, 2001. The SVE system consisted of a Thermtech
VAC-250 thermal oxidizer unit that was connected to wells MW-1, MW-11, MW-15,
MW-16, MW-17, MW-23, and MW-24. The system was shut down due to high water
levels and the lack of available vadose screen for SVE (RETEC November 1,2004).
2000-2002 Subsurface Investigations: Toxichem Management System installed wells
MW-29 through MW-34 and MW-13R. During October 2000,wells MW-29 and MW-30
were installed east of the tank farm near the former railcar unloading spur. During July
2001, wells MW-31 and MW-32 were installed east and northeast of wells MW-29 and
MW-30 to provide off-site plume definition, and well MW-33 was installed to provide
plume definition down gradient and southwest of the former unlined holding pond.
During January 2002,well MW-13R was installed to replace MW-13. During April 2002,
well MW-34 was installed to provide plume definition down gradient of the site near
Hooper Drive and well MW-28.
2003 Subsurface Investigation: During March and April 2003, RETEC performed a
direct push and well installation investigation to delineate the extent of petroleum
constituents west of well MW-33 (RETEC, May 16,2003). Ten direct push borings (SB-1
through SB-10) were installed and depth-discrete groundwater samples were collected.
Based on the groundwater analytical data, well MW-35 was installed.
2004 Subsurface Investigation: During October and November 2004, RETEC performed
a direct push and well installation investigation to delineate the extent of petroleum
247729(aa) A-2 CiONESTOGA-ROVERS&ASSOCIATES
