v ^
a Chevron Products Company2
Cheym Station#9-2396, .,25o H*' 99 Norah Aeamoo Califomia November 21 2000
with no visible holes observed. The associated product piping was also removed at this
time. Approximately 1,000 cubic yards of soil was removed to facilitate the installation
of the three new 12,000 gallon USTs. Analytical results for soil samples reported low
levels (1.9 ppm to 410 ppm)of total petroleum hydrocarbons calculated as gasoline
(TPHg),benzene (0.008 ppm to 0.11 ppm),toluene(0.009 ppm to 6.7 ppm),
ethylbenzene(0.008 ppm to 6.9 ppm), and xylenes (0.009 ppm to 46 ppm).
On June 24 and July 28, 1994,water samples were taken from the domestic well located
near the frontage road, west of the pump islands. Analytical results reported non-
detectable levels of TPHg, and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) on
both occasions.
PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of work proposed for this assessment includes the drilling of three
exploratory borings to collect soil and groundwater samples. Groundwater is
anticipated to be encountered at approximately 70 feet bgs(Touchstone, 1994).
The specific scope of work is discussed below:
• Exploratory Borings. Three exploratory borings will be advanced
at the general locations shown in Figure 2. One boring will be
located in the area adjacent to the gasoline USTs, one boring will be
located in the area of the former waste oil UST, and one boring will
be located between the source area and the on-site domestic well.
The borings will be advanced to approximately 75 feet bgs. Soil
samples will be collected every five feet, and at a minimum, the
capillary fringe and bottom soil samples will be submitted for
analysis. A groundwater"grab"sample will also be collected and
submitted for analysis.
• Soil and Groundwater Sample Analysis. Soil and groundwater
samples will be submitted to a California State-certified laboratory
and analyzed for the presence of TPHg,BTEX, and the fuel
oxygenates methyl tertiary butyl ether(N4tBE), ethyl tertiary butyl
ether(EtBE), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),tertiary amyl methyl ether
(TAME),tertiary butanol(TBA), ethylene dibromide(EDB), 1-2
dichloroethane (1-2 DCA),methanol, and ethanol.
• Domestic Well Sampling. The on-site domestic well will be
sampled by first stressing the well by running water inside the station
building. When the well cycles on,water samples will be taken from
a valve at the wellhead. The domestic well samples will be analyzed
for TPHg, BTEX, and fuel oxygenates(MtBE, EtBE,DIPE, TAME,
TBA, EDB, 1-2 DCA,methanol, and ethanol).
I:\Chevr0n\92396\Rcports\WP soil boringWomestic well sample.doc
