06 October 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 96-0264
4.0. FINDINGS
4.1. SURFACE SOIL SAMPLING
Detectable concentrations of hydrocarbons were not present in the surface soil samples collected
from the storm water runoff collection pond.
4.2. HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
.and TPH-g wer detected at concentrations _ au"50 parl_,per million (ppm,
reported as milligrams per kilogram), respectively, in soil collected from probe boring 3 at a depth
of 5 feet bsg(B3-5). Lower concentrations of toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene were also detected
in the same sample.
Detectable concentrations of TPH-d, TPH-g or BTE&X were not present in the soil samples
collected from boring 3 at a depth of 10 feet bsg. TPH-d was detected at a concentration of 1.6 ppm
in the sample collected from boring 2 at a depth of 10 feet bsg, located at the discharge end the
clarifier.
Tetrachloroethylene(PCE) was detected at a concentration of 94 parts per billion (ppb, rept
micrograms per kilogram) in the soil sample from boring 3 at 5 feet bsg (113-m. PCE was also
le from boring 6 depth of 5 feet bsg(136-5) at a concentration of 45-0b.
No other soil samples analyzed contained detectable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons or
chlorinated hydrocarbons. Analytical results from the soil samples are summarized in Table 1 -
Analytical Results of Soil Samples. The laboratory report (MAI Laboratory ID numbers 79955
through 79962 and 80081 and 79963 through 79968), chain-of-custody and QA/QC report are
included in Appendix A.
5.0. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
The following conclusions were drawn from the results of this investigation:
• Ground water at the site was not encountered in the soil borings advanced to depths of
approximately 10 feet bsg on the site.
• Hydrocarbon-impacted soil was encountered near the receiving end of the three-stage
clarifier. Soil was impacted at a depth of five feet bsg, near the bottom of the clarifier.
