13 August 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 96-0264
4.0. SCOPE OF WORK
4.1. PROBING AND SAMPLING
AGE proposes to advance a minimum of six soil probe borings at the site. The subsurface
investigation at the site is necessary to determine if soil and/or ground water at the site has been
impacted by hydrocarbons. \0 :,-,OA 6-41G
Probe borings will be advanced to depths of approximately 15 feet below surface grade (bsg) using
direct push technology(DPT). Four probe boring will be advanced near the oil water separator and
two probe borings will be established west and east of the edges of the surface water evaporation
pond on the site. All probe borings will be advanced using a Geoprobe probing unit equipped with
1.25-inch probe rods. The proposed probe boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2.
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals, beginning at five feet bsg using a Geoprobe
sampler and associated six inch by 1.125 inch diameter brass sleeves. Upon sample retrieval, the
second brass sleeve will be preserved. The ends of the sleeve will be immediately covered with
Teflon tape or aluminum sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Each soil sample will be labeled with
the following: boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials. After collection, samples will
be stored in a chilled container, under ice and transported to a State-certified laboratory.
4.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean water after
washing with a solution of Alconox. All Geoprobe rods are cleaned prior to advancement in each
probing location.
4.3. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons(TPH-all),volatile aromatic
hydrocarbons(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes: BTE&X) and methyl tertiary butyl
ether(MTBE) in accordance with EPA methods 8015/5030, 820/602 and 8020/602, respectively.
Laboratory reports of soil analysis, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain-of-custody documentation will be presented in a report with the
findings and recommendations.
Advanced GeoEnN ironmental,Inc.
r.:
