Ms. Margaret Lagorio
San Joaquin County
July 24, 1995
Page 2
groundwater samples will be analyzed using EPA methodology. Volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) will be analyzed using EPA Method 8240, Title 22 metals using
EPA 6010/7000 series, organochlorine pesticides and PCBs using EPA Method 8080,
and chlorinated herbicides using EPA Method 8150. Total petroleum hydrocarbons
(TPH) with characterization of peaks will be analyzed using EPA Method 8015,
modified to identify and quantify the sample against diesel, JP fuel, kerosene, motor
oil, and paint thinner standards.
Drill cuttings and purge water will be placed in containers and will remain on-site until
receipt of analytical results and determination of appropriate disposal. Soil and water
disposal will be the responsibility of FMC Corporation. Augered soil borings will be
backfilled to ground surface with a cement/bentonite grout through a tremie pipe. Soil
probe borings will be backfilled with bentonite.
FR Manufacturing, Stockton
The investigation areas for this site will include the former underground storage tank
(UST) location, the paint shop compressor area, the paint shop discharge area, the
sand pile area adjacent to the Roadway Express fuel island, the wash area and
northern perimeter, the unpaved storage area, a four-inch diameter pipe in the
southern parking area, the reported dry well, the inactive (capped) well, two areas of
broken asphalt, and the two on-site active wells. Proposed sample locations are
shown on Figure 1 . Proposed number of sample locations, depths, and analyses are
shown on Table 1 .
UST
A 4,000-gallon steel UST containing gasoline was reportedly removed from the site
under permit in 1989 or 1990; however, the company conducting the removal went
out of business and did not complete closure requirements. FR Manufacturing
personnel report that preliminary results indicated that the UST had not leaked.
Four soil gas samples will be collected from immediately beneath the former tank
location, piping, and dispenser areas and will be field screened with a PID. Four soil
samples will be collected in locations adjacent to the soil gas samples and will be
analyzed for TPH-G, organic lead, and BTEX. If PID readings or visual evidence
indicate the presence of volatile compounds or gasoline, additional soil gas and/or soil
samples will be collected and analyzed to estimate volume of impacted material.
II11IHYDRO-SEARCH, nG A Tetra Tech Company
