N11 HYDRILSEARCH, inn.
A Tetra Tech Company
May 21 , 1996
C:\lVlA1W1V1C\5042\WKPLN.LTR
Mr. Harlin Knoll
Environmental Health Specialist
San Joaquin County
P.O. Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Subject: Work Plan for Well Abandonment at
FranRica Manufacturing, Stockton CA.
Dear Mr. Knoll:
The following is the workplan submitted on behalf of FMC, Corporation (FMC) for
abandonment of three groundwater monitor wells and one capped well at FranRica
Manufacturing, 2807 and 2829 South Highway 99, Stockton, California. FMC has
recently purchased this facility and wishes to abandon the wells because additional
monitoring is not required at this site. The well abandonment permit application and
fee are attached.
The three monitor wells were installed by Hydro-Search, Inc. (HSI) in August 1995 as
a part of a Phase II site assessment conducted for a property transfer. The capped
well is a pre-existing well that has been out of service for many years and was also
used in the Phase II assessment for monitoring. Installation and sampling of the
monitor and capped wells is described in the "Report of Findings, Phase //
Environmental Site Assessment FR Manufacturing Corporation" by HSI, dated
September 19, 1995 and in the "Excavation and Disposal of Hydrocarbon-Impacted
Soils and Groundwater Monitoring at FR Manufacturing Corporation" by HSI, dated
April 1996. Groundwater samples were collected from these wells on two occasions
and analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbons. Abandonment of the wells was
recommended in the April 1996 report because no significant concentrations of
hydrocarbons were detected in the groundwater samples.
A site plan showing locations of the four wells and copies of the well construction
diagrams for the three monitor wells are attached. A driller's log for the capped well
is not available; however a video log of the capped well revealed that the well is 92
feet deep, with mill slots cut from approximately 69 to 92 feet. Silt is visible at the
bottom of the well and the total depth of the well is unknown.
The proposed work includes pressure grouting through a tremie pipe installed within
five feet of the casing bottom. Cement grout will be installed in a continuous
operation in such a manner as to allow it to migrate through openings in the well
3035 Prospect Park Drive,Suite 40,Rancho Cordova,California 95670 Telephone(916)853-1800 Facsimile(916)853-1860
