1
Site Assessment Report and Request for Closure 4
Sears Auto Center No 1288,5110 Pacific Avenue,Stockton,California February 10,2000
' 70 SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
The results of the subsurface environmental assessment conducted at Sears Auto Center No 1288
' are presented below
■ On November 8, 1999, six DPT soil borings (VA-1 through VA-6)were advanced within
10 feet of the former new/used oil and gasoline USTs
■ Soil beneath the site consists predominantly of clay with fine sand lenses encountered at
vanous depths to 20 feet bgs (maximum vertical depth sampled) Groundwater was not
encountered during site assessment activities
■ Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals from the DPT borings The samples from
each boring were analyzed for BTEX, TPH-g, VOCs, and oxygenates
' ■ Laboratory analyses indicate an absence of hydrocarbons in native soil beneath the former
USTs, except for the soil sample collected from boring VA-2,which contained TPH-d at a
concentration of 4 8 mg/kg Low levels of metals were detected in all soil samples that were
analyzed
Required PHS/EHD closure documentation is provided in Appendix G Based on the data from this
' verification assessment, site closure and no-further-action status is requested for the site for the
following reasons
■ Petroleum hydrocarbon source removal at the site was completed over four years ago The
USTs and impacted soil were removed in 1985 and 1987 (Appendix A) Product lines, fuel
dispenser islands, and impacted soil were removed in 1994 (Appendix B)
■ The highest concentrations of compounds originally reported in excavated soil were removed
from the site in November 1994
■ Impacted soil was within the upper 2 to 5 feet of the subsurface and attenuates with
increased depth Of the six soil samples collected below the former UST excavations during
this investigation, only one soil sample contained petroleum hydrocarbons (the soil sample
collected at 20 feet bgs from boring VA-2, which containedTPH-d at a concentration of
4 8 mg/kg)
s Predominantly low-permeability soil encountered at the site reduces the nsk of migration of
any remaining petroleum hydrocarbons
' ■ Groundwater was not encountered during site assessment activities
■ No production wells for municipal, domestic, agriculture, industry, or other uses were found
within 2,000 feet of the site (Appendix H)
1
' 1288VAR doc R CORPORATION
