4 <br />' IT Corporation <br /> 4005 Port Chicago Highway <br /> Concord, CA 94520 1120 <br /> Tel 925 288 9898 <br /> the <br /> Fax 925 288 0888 <br /> trit;A:r0UP-- <br />' A hfember of The IT Group <br />' October 21, 1999 <br /> 1 Mr Harlin Knoll, REHS <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br />' 1601 East Hazelton Ave <br /> Stockton, California 95201 <br /> Subject: Work Plan for Verification Assessment <br />' Sears Store No 1288 <br /> 5110 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, Cahfomla <br /> Dear Mr Knoll- <br /> On behalf of Sears, Roebuck and Co., IT Corporation is submitting this letter work plan for a verification <br /> assessment for site closure at the above referenced site (Attachment 1, Figure 1) A Request for <br /> Closure report dated March 11, 1999,was submitted to the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, <br /> Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)to prompt a review of site conditions and closure <br /> requirements In February 1994,the PHS/EHD declined a Request for Closure for seven former <br /> underground storage tanks(USTs) because bottom-of-tank soil samples were not collected in February <br /> 1985,when the USTs were removed (Attachment 2) This verification assessment will be performed to <br />' confirm the vertical extent of potential sod containing hydrocarbons adjacent to the former three 10,000- <br /> gallon gasoline and four 1,000-gallon new/used-oil USTs The site investigation will be conducted using <br /> direct-push technology (DPT) at six boring locations, advanced within 10 feet of the former USTs <br />' (Attachment 1, Figure 2) <br /> Sampling Methods and Procedures <br /> Soil samples will be collected from six borings,within 10 feet of the former USTs, using Geoprobe <br /> Systems DPT(Attachment 1, Figure 2) Around the former three 10,000-gallon gasoline USTs, the DPT <br />' borings will be advanced to a total vertical depth of approximately 15 feet below ground surface (bgs) <br /> Around the former 1,000-gallon new/used-oil USTs.the DPT bonngs will be advanced at an angle to a <br /> true vertical depth of approximately 10 feet bgs To avoid a concrete slab that once supported the <br /> newlused-pd USTs,the borings will be advanced at a 300 angle approximately 6 feet from the center line <br /> of the former USTs. Advancing a boring at such an angle and distance from the USTs will require a total <br /> depth of approximately 12 feet. One soil sample for laboratory analysis will be collected from the bottom <br /> of each boring An application for subsurface drilling permits, along with a check for the PHS/EHD <br /> permitting fee ($89 00), is included with this work pian (Attachment 3) Utility clearance in the vicinity of <br /> the proposed borings was performed October 12, 1999. <br /> ,zasvwv�mc it ooRPaRAMN <br />
