SECTION 10-1
CONSTRUCTION DETAILS
PART 1--GENERAL
10-1 . 1 SCOPE
In accordance with the specifications and as shown on the
drawings, the contractor shall supply all labor, materials, and
equipment for the complete destruction of four water supply wells
located in the Lincoln Village area of Stockton, California . All
wells are located in San Joaquin County easements . All wells shall
be destroyed in accordance with State of California Water Well
Standards, Bulletins 74-81 and 74-90 .
The following discussions summarize the well history for each
well and describe the current well conditions . Diagrams of each
well are provided at the end of this section .
Well LVMD1--Hiatory and Description
LVMD1 _was originally drilled and installed in 1948 . The well
was drilled using cable tool equipment . The records indicate that
it was drilled to a total depth of 262 feet below ground surface
(bgs) . Fourteen-inch-diameter 7 gage steel casing was placed from
the surface to a depth of 102 feet bgs . Twelve-inch-diameter 10
gage steel casing was placed from 40 feet to approximately 200 feet
bgs . This well was videotaped in 1985 . Static groundwater was at
a depth of 42 feet, and vertical perforations were noted to begin
at 164 feet bgs . At 187 feet bgs, the well bottom was encountered,
which was noted to be soft and sediments were present . A videotape
also indicated a casing leak at a depth of 42 feet, with water
pouring into the well at that depth. This breach in the casing is
thought to have allowed PCE contamination into the well from
between 35 to 65 feet bgs . The well was repaired by perforating
the existing 14-inch-diameter casing and installing a 10-3/4 inch
PVC liner. The liner was pressure grouped in place to a depth of
80 feet . The well has been subsequently re-sampled, and results
indicate PCE is no longer detectable in samples from this well .
Well LVMD2--History and Description
LVMD2 was drilled in 1950 using cable tool equipment . It was
drilled to a total depth of 300 feet bgs . Fourteen-inch-diameter
7 gage steel casing was installed from ground surface to 126 feet,
which was cemented in to approximately 80 feet . From 124 to
approximately 260 feet bgs, 12-inch diameter 10 gage steel casing
was installed. This well was videotaped in 1990, which indicated
groundwater was at a depth df 59 feet bgs . Vertical perforations
were noted from 212 feet to 252 feet . The perforations were noted
6691\SPECS\SEOT10N.101
