As you requested, the following is intended to clarify the results
of the aquifer (pumping) test work performed during Phase II and specifically
address Comment No. 4 of your review memorandum dated 26 June 1991 .
Comment 4a:
The AQTESOLV computer model, which was utilized to analyze and evaluate
the generated field data, allows for the use of the Theis equation under
unconfined conditions by adjusting drawdown with the equation:
S, = s - (s2/2b)
where s' is the adjusted drawdown, s is the actual drawdown, and b
is the saturated aquifer thickness.
Use of this equation in an unconfined condition with this modification is
appropriate under the assumption that there is no delayed yield. Additional
aquifer tests are outlined in the Phase III Site Assessment Workplan to
assess the validity of this assumption.
Comment 4b:
As stated in the Phase II report, the flow rate for the Zone "A" aquifer test
was 12 gpm and for the Zone "B" aquifer test, 35 gpm. Since only one
monitoring well penetrated Zone "C", no aquifer test was performed.
