The document is dated January 9, 2006 and was received by the CV
Regional Board on January 11, 2006. Work was scheduled to begin on Monday January 16, 2006, and is
anticipated to take approximately seven days to complete. Staff sent an email approval of the MIP WP
on January 11, 2006 to facilitate obtaining final permits from the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services, Environmental Health Department. This letter serves to formalize our approval of the MIP
WP.
The purpose of the focused MIP investigation is to assess the lateral and vertical extent of chlorinated
solvents in and adjacent to the Resaturated-Zone sediments in the Historical Source Area. The results of
the investigation will be used to aid in the design of an effective air/ozone delivery system for a full-
scale implementation of air/ozone sparging to remediate the Historical Source Area, which is responding
slowly to remedial measures. The conceptual design for the air/ozone delivery system was presented in
the Air Sparge Pilot Test Results for Lincoln Center, Stockton dated September 15, 2005. The
capabilities of the MIP technology were demonstrated at the Site on November 16, 2005, and were
witnessed by CV Regional Board staff.
Staff has no comments on the WP, and we concur with objectives and scope of work proposed. The CV
Regional Board approves the MIP WP as submitted. However, we have deferred oversight of the
grouting of the 14 proposed MIP borings to the San Joaquin Environmental Health Department.
California Environmental Protection Agency
aZ,t Recycled Paper
