Have Woodward send me the info
please as well as the work plan describing this process.
I'll need to be clear on 'perforations' versus casing splitting.
I'm under the impression this process will be a complete, bilateral split of the stainless
steel casing from total depth upwards to the existing cement grout.
Either way, I should read about it in the work plan.
-----Original Message-----
From: Goldstein, Lucas (mailto:Lucas.Goldstein@lfr.com)
Sent: Monday, October 22, 2007 11:44 AM
To: Mike Infurna [EH]
Cc: Triolo, Jason
Subject: RE: Mlnfurna@sjcehd.com - Character set not allowed (n/a) (n/a) - FW: Requests
for discontinuation of groundwater extraction and abandonment of soil vapor, GW extraction
well and piezometers
Dear Mike, Thank you for tanking the time to discuss the options for abandoning wells at
Lincoln Center. A complete well abandonment permit form (including boring logs and fees)
was mailed to you before your 10/05/07 e-mail and our telephone conversation. As you know,
the completed forms proposed pressure grouting as the abandonment methodology.
I recently contacted several drilling companies and in my opinion the best option for
enhancing the abandonment of the four wells at issue is to perforate the screed prior to
abandonment. Unfortunately Spectrum does not offer this service. However, Woodward has a
tool called the "Holte" air perforator and I proposed that we use this methodology. I do
not recommend blast perforation because the wells are relatively shallow (less than 100
feet) and relatively close to underground utilities including gas lines along Pacific and
our extracted groundwater conveyance and control lines that are located as little as about
15 feet from one of the wells.
We anticipate that we will receive the RWQCB concurrence with the proposed well
abandonment sometime this week. Please let us know if you approve of the aforementioned
abandonment methodology. If you approve, then we will revise the well permit form and send
it you.
Please give me a call if you have any comments questions.
Sincerely,
-Lucas Goldstein
510-596-9535
-----Original Message-----
From: Mike Infurna [EH] [mailto:MInfurna@sjcehd.com]
Sent: Friday, October 05, 2007 3:39 PM
To: Lucas.Goldstein@lfr.com
Cc: mtmccrink@waterboards.ca.gov
Subject: FW: MInfurna@sjcehd.com - Character set not allowed (n/a) (n/a) -
FW: Requests for discontinuation of groundwater extraction and abandonments of soil vapor„
GW extraction well and piezometers
Lucas, Marie.
I've had a chance to review your note here and the data for the wells to be abandoned.
Due to conditions in our Well Standards, the SJCEHD will require the wells to be bored out
to at least total depth with at least the same size augers/drive casings they were
installed with.
1
