Geosyntec°
consultants
Hydrostratigraphic B-Zone
The top of the hydrostratigraphic B-Zone is typically encountered between
approximately 105 to 115 feet bgs, and the base of the B-Zone is typically encountered
between approximately 130 to 145 feet bgs. The saturated portion of the B-zone ranges
from 15 to 40 feet in thickness. In general, the lithology of the hydrostratigraphic A-
and B-Zones is similar. The B-Zone is characterized by fairly continuous sequences of
silt and clay that contain a lower percentage of coarse-grained material compared to the
A-Zone. Coarse-grained permeable intervals within the hydrostratigraphic B-Zone are
typically thinner than those observed in the hydrostratigraphic A-Zone and are not as
laterally continuous (LFR, 1999).
Hvdrostratieranhic B/C-Zone
The top of the hydrostratigraphic B/C-Zone is typically encountered at approximately
145 feet bgs and generally ranges between 10 and 30 feet in thickness. The
hydrostratigraphic B/C-Zone consists primarily of hard, silty clay and appears to be
laterally continuous, although it varies laterally in thickness and lithologic character
(LFR, 1999).
Hvdrostratig_raphic C-Zone
The hydrostratigraphic C-Zone generally consists of a high percentage of relatively
thick, permeable, coarse-grained sediments from approximately 150 to 300 feet bgs
(LFR, 1999).
2.1.3 Occurrence and Movement of Groundwater
Below summarizes the occurrence and movement of groundwater beneath the site
within the water bearing units. For a detailed compilation of the most current water
level measurements and elevations, refer to the Groundwater Monitoring Report for the
Semiannual Period from January 1 through June 30, 2011 document (ARCADIS U.S.
Inc. [ARCADIS], 2011).
A-Zone
The A-Zone aquifer is apparently partially, if not fully, confined as indicated by the
depths of saturated soils observed in borings compared with static groundwater levels
measured in wells installed in the borings and the response of the A-Zone aquifer to
pumping(LFR, 2002). Groundwater-elevation measurements indicate that groundwater
Pre-Design Investigation Work Plan 5 18.05.12
