Geosyntec
consultants
A-Zone aquifer and 24 ounces representative of the B-Zone aquifer will be collected
from each boring location). Samples will be collected in transferred to a laboratory-
supplied clean glass jar. All soil samples will be stored in an iced cooler, packaged
under Chain-of-Custody (COC) protocol, and shipped to a California-certified
analytical laboratory as described below in Section 4.2.5 and in the QAPP
(Appendix A).
The soil samples collected from the borings will be analyzed for geochemical
parameters (non-COPCs) as inputs for the remedial technology alternative evaluation by
one or more of the following methods:
• Chemical oxygen demand by USEPA Method 5220C;
• Arsenic, chromium, calcium, iron, manganese, potassium, and sodium by
USEPA Method 6010B; and
• Sulfate,nitrate as nitrogen(N), and nitrite as N by USEPA Method 300.
4.2.1.2 Grab Groundwater Sampling
At location EBI on Figure 3 and locations B2 and B4 on Figure 5, grab groundwater
samples will be collected at 10 foot intervals within the A-Zone aquifer and the B-Zone
aquifer. Grab groundwater samples will be collected by advancing a hydropunch
groundwater sampler or equivalent to develop a vertical profile of COPCs in
groundwater. Prior to advancement of the groundwater sampling apparatus, the outer
sonic casing shall be advanced to the top of the desired sampling interval.
Groundwater samples will be collected directly from the sampling apparatus and placed
directly into the sample containers supplied by the laboratory. All groundwater samples
will be stored in an iced cooler, packaged under COC protocol, and shipped to a
California-certified analytical laboratory as described below in Section 4.2.5 and in the
QAPP (Appendix A). Sample containers will be labeled with sample identification
number, date, time, requested analyses, preservation method, and sampler's initials.
Groundwater samples from the borings will be analyzed for VOCs using USEPA
Method 8260B.
4.2.2 Well Installation
Five (5) groundwater wells will be installed in the A-Zone aquifer east of the source
area as shown on Figure 4 (location Al through A5) and four (4) groundwater wells
will be installed in the B-Zone aquifer east of the source area as shown in Figure 5
Pre-Design Investigation Work Plan 18 18.05.12
