LFR Inc.
The following 10 SVE wells are proposed for sampling (Figure 3):
SVE-004 (north)
SVE-014 (north central)
SVE-033 (south)
SVE-034 (south central)
SVE-024 (east)
SVE-029 (east central)
SVE-011 (west)
SVE-019 (western hot spot)
SVE-017 (hot spot)
SVE-027 (hot spot)
Samples will be collected in pre-evacuated Summa canisters and analyzed by EPA
Method TO-15. Purging of any ambient air within the sampling lines will occur prior to
opening the evacuated Summa canister for collection of the sample.
Once the sampling of the SVE wells has occurred, operation of the SVETS and
sparging systems will be terminated for a period of approximately 45 days to allow the
subsurface to equilibrate and return to static conditions.
After 45 days, the SVETS will be restarted. Prior to restart, the same set of 10 SVE
wells listed above will be re-sampled to assess whether Hazardous Substance
concentrations within the vadose zone have rebounded under static non-operating
conditions. Ambient air within the well and sampling lines will be purged a minimum
of three casing volumes using a portable vacuum pump prior to sample collection. As
with the baseline samples, samples will be collected in pre-evacuated Summa canisters
and analyzed by EPA Method TO-15.
2.1.3 Proposed New Soil-Gas Sampling Points
LFR also proposes to collect soil-gas samples from five new locations approximately
equidistant between two SVE wells. The purpose of these five soil-gas sampling points
will be to assess Hazardous Substance concentrations at locations removed from the
active extraction wells. Samples will be collected from depths of approximately 5, 10,
and 20 feet below ground surface using direct-push technology at each of the five soil-
gas sample locations. Soil-gas samples will be analyzed for Hazardous Substances using
EPA Method TO-15. The proposed soil-gas sampling locations are shown on Figure 3.
This sampling will be performed while the SVETS system is off.
2.2 Phase IV Sparging System Assessment
The 10 groundwater monitoring wells located within the sparge area footprint (wells
PT-1 through PT-10; Figure 4) have been sampled approximately eight times since
sparging began in April 2007 and were sampled most recently in January 2009.
