Geotechnicaf and Environmental Sciences Consultants TEG-STRATOBROBE Soil and groundwater samples will be collected using the Stratobrobe system operated by TEG of Sacramento. The Stratoprobe is a hydraulic drive point system designed to perform environmental sampling and monitoring. The Stratoprobe obtains discrete soil samples using a 1.5" diameter retractable piston sampler..' The sampler consists of a standard.split spoon with a piston assembly added to control the sampling depth. Upon reaching the desired depth, the piston is unlocked and the sampler advanced one foot into the soil as the piston retracts. Samples are collected in standard retainer sleeves made of brass. Brass sleeves are pre-cleaned. Drive rods and samplers are decontaminated after each sampling event by a three step wash and rinse cycle which,includes phosphate-free detergent and de ionized water. To collect groundwater samples, the Stratoprobe outer drive cylinder is partially withdrawn, exposing a shielded stainless steel screen. Groundwater is allowed to flow passively into the. shielded screen point, filling the void.space. Groundwater is then sampled using a pre- cleaned 0.5" diameter.stainless steel bailer. Soil and .groundwater sampling using the'Stratoprobe system produces no waste and no structures are left in the ground. The probe holes produced by the Stratoprobe are backfilled with granular bentonite and hydrated. The ground surface is repaired with concrete.
