Backus [EH]
Sent: Wednesday, October 24, 2007 8:45 AM
To: 'Robert Elliott'
Subject: RE: New business license for 1010 Shaw Road
Attachments: HW Emergency Information-SQG Contingency.pdf; HW labeling.doc
Hi Robert,
Since your business generates <5 tons per year of hazardous waste, you will need a small hazardous
waste generator permit from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department. Please come
down to our office at 600 E Main Street, Stockton and provide contact information and pay the permit
fee of$213. The Environmental Health Dept. will do an unannounced hazardous waste inspection once
every three years.
See the web link
http://www.dtsc.ca.gov/HazardousWaste/upload/HWM_FS_Accumulating_HazWaste _Generators.pdf
for information regarding accumulation times of hazardous waste. In most cases, hazardous waste can
be accumulated for 180 days before disposal.
Hazardous waste generator information and requirements:
1) Free hazardous waste generator(CUPA) classes at the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Dept. Call 468-3427 to reserve a spot.
2) Small hazardous waste generators must post a"Hazardous Waste Emergency Information" document
next to all telephones used during an emergency. Use the attached document: HW Emergency
Information - SQG Contingency.pdff,
3) All hazardous waste must be labeled with the following: words "Hazardous Waste", Generator name
and address, composition(contents), physical state, hazardous properties, and accumulation start date.
See the attached document with example label: HW labeling.doc.
4) Keep all hazardous waste manifests and other disposal receipts at the facility for review by the
Environmental Health inspector.
The following web links provide more hazardous waste information:
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Dept.
