BEST CALIFORNIA GAS, LTD.
December 11, 2007 082672
Mr. Mike Infurna, Jr. RF
C I C IN_
DD
Senior REHS
County of San Joaquin DEC 1 3 2007
Public Health Services/Environmental Health Division ENVIRONMENT HEALTH
304 East Weber Avenue, 3rd Floor PERMIT/SERVICES
Stockton, CA 95202
RE: Best California Gas, Ltd. Station #172
7647 Pacific Avenue
Stockton, CA 95207
Underground Storage Tank Pit Soil Sampling
Dear Mr. Infurna:
This letter is to confirm the telephone conversation earlier today between yourself and Mr. Chris
Panaitescu of Thrifty Oil Co. regarding the collection of soil samples beneath the underground
storage tanks (USTs) at the Best California Gas, Ltd. Station #172 located at 7647 Pacific
Avenue, Stockton, California.
The presence of the large quantity of pea gravel backfill in the UST pit makes it is unsafe to
collect soil samples at the bottom of the excavation from beneath the USTs as required in the
UST removal permit. Due to these adverse conditions, we agreed in our telephone conversation
that the most suitable course of action is to backfill the UST excavation, and subsequently drill a
series of nine boreholes through the backfilled excavation in order to collect the required soil
samples beneath the former USTs. At the total depth of each borehole (expected at 18 to 20 feet
below grade), a soil sample will be collected and analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPHg), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX), and oxygenated compounds
(including MTBE) using EPA Methods 8015 and 8260. These sampling activities will be
completed by February 1, 2008
Should you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact Larry Higinbotham (025) or
Chris Panaitescu at 562 921-3581 _(x390).
0 13
'i
Respectfully submitted,
—97
Larry Higinbotham, R.G. Chris Panaitescu
Project Manager `07 C ALF General Manager
Environmental Affairs
cc: Mr. Ray von Flue, County of San Joaquin
13116 Imperial Highway, Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670-0138 • (562) 921-3581
