Thrifty Oil Co. Station #172
Page3
TPH-g by EPA method 8015, and BTEX/MTBE by EPA method 8021B A copy of the influent,
effluent, and well-head vapor sample laboratory analytical results are presented in Appendix D
A historical summary of hydrocarbons removed by vapor extraction is presented in Table 3 The
Field Status Reports are included in Appendix C
Groundwater Treatment System
The groundwater treatment system was started in conjunction with the vapor treatment system on
April 26, 2001, and the flow meter started at zero Presently, the remediation system is connected
to groundwater wells MW-10 and MW-11 Two down-well pneumatic pumps (one in each well),
draw water into a 150 gallon polyvinyl tank which then transfers the water through two (2) one
thousand pound canisters with activated carbon
During this reporting period, the groundwater extraction system treated and discharged
approximately 1,861 gallons as of March 28, 2002 for a total of 78,932 gallons The groundwater
remediation system influent, intermediate, and effluent streams were sampled on January 24, and
February 6, 2002 for TPH-g by EPA method 8015, BTEX/MTBE by EPA method 8021B
• Groundwater samples were collected from the inlet ports of the system from wells MW-10 and MW-
11 on February 6, 2002 Field status reports are presented in Appendix C, and laboratory analytical
results for the groundwater samples are included in Appendix E Historical groundwater system
operations are reported in Table 4
The groundwater extraction system was non-operation from January 3, 2002 through January 22,
2002 for carbon change out, from January 31 to February 1, 2002 because the knock out switch shut
down, and from February 6 through March 28, 2002 for a second carbon change out The
groundwater system operated for a total of 15 days this quarter
Summary and Recommendations
The soil vapor extraction was started on April 26, 2001, and groundwater extraction was started on
April 26, 2001 A total of 28,649 pounds of hydrocarbons have been destroyed by the vapor
extraction system, and 78,932 gallons of groundwater have been treated by the groundwater system
The groundwater extraction system was non-operations for a total of 75 days this quarter, because
of two separate carbon change outs and a knock out switch problem
Thrifty will continue quarterly groundwater monitoring, gauging, purging and sampling of all
groundwater monitoring wells, and operation of the remediation system
