♦1
On July 11, 1995, six wells were abandoned at the site The three vapor extraction wells (VWA,
VWB, and VWC) and groundwater monitonng wells MWl, MW2 and MW8, were abandoned All
well abandonment activities were conducted under the direction of Mr Mike Infurna of PHS/EHD
Details of the well abandonment project are presented in JDR Environmental's letter-report dated
August 10, 1995
The new groundwater monitoring wells extend to about 50 feet below grade Each well is two inches
in diameter and is screened with 0 02 inch slotted casing from total depth to 40 feet The well annuli
are filled with #3 Monterey sand along the screening, and sealed with bentonite and grout to the
surface Each of the wells is sealed with a locking water-tight cap and protected with a traffic-rated
vault Further details on well construction specifics are presented in the drilling logs Procedures used
for well construction and drilling are presented in Appendix C
SOIL ANALYSES
During drilling, soil samples were collected at five or ten-foot intervals for geologic logging and
laboratory analysis Each sample was screened in the field for volatile emissions using an organic vapor
analyzer (OVA) Based on these readings and field observations, soil samples were selected for
laboratory analysis A total of 28 soil samples were selected for analysis of total petroleum
hydrocarbon (TP14) and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) by EPA methods
8015/8020 All analyses were performed by American Analytics of Chatsworth, California
Procedures used for soil sampling are presented in Appendix C
Each soil sample from the new wells had less than detectable levels of TPH and BTEX These
results are presented in Table 1 with the results of previous investigations The analytical data is
presented in Appendix D which includes chain of custody and method detection limits The
distribution of hydrocarbon in soil is shown on Figure 5
Page 5
