Hwy. 99 Frontage Rd., Lodi, CA (Figure 1)
Pond 2 Soil Sampling Results from Boring DB1
Dear Mr. Atkinson:
We are writing to transmit the results of the recent soil sampling conducted at the subject facility.
As you are aware, the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) has expressed concern that
soils within "Pond 2" might have elevated salinity due to the former use of the pond and that this
might necessitate compaction and capping to prevent groundwater degradation. Soil samples
collected from ten hand auger borings in June/July, 1999 did not contain elevated levels of salinity.
At a meeting with RWQCB staff on February 18, 2000 it was agreed that an additional, deeper,
boring and soil sampling was appropriate prior to deciding the disposition of Pond 2.
Workplan and Analytical Methods:
Prior to sampling, a brief Workplan dated May 4, 2000 was submitted to Mr. Ross Atkinson with
RWQCB for his review and approval. The Workplan proposed drilling a boring to first
groundwater and collecting soil samples at five-foot intervals from 15 feet to total depth. It was
proposed to extract the samples with deionized water by the California Waste Extraction Test
("WET") method and to analyze the extract for total dissolved solids (TDS), chloride and sodium.
The Workplan was approved by Mr. Atkinson in a letter dated May 8, 2000.
Soil Samplin:
On May 11, 2000 a Ground Zero geologist observed Spectrum Exploration (C-57 512268) advance
soil boring "DBV to a depth of 46 feet below ground surface (bgs) using a hollow stem auger drill
BochatBWblryt
