Angelica Sandoval Marin [EH]
From: Angelica Sandoval Marin [EH]
Sent: Wednesday,January 07, 2015 2:50 PM
To: Lang, Sherrie (Sherrie.Lang@arcadis-us.com)
Subject: Re: 6100 N. Hwy 99
Sherri,
I am emailing you in regards to the equipment blank data that was submitted for this site. I have discussed the method
of how the equipment blank was taken with DTSC and wanted to inform you what was related to me. An equipment
blank can be collected (prior to collecting the soil gas sample) by assembling the entire soil gas assembly and before
doing the purge volume test, collecting air from within the entire assembly that would include pressure gauges, three-way
values, ferrules, and hardware used to connect the assembly. Only the dead air within the assembly should be collected
in a Summa canister and analyzed for the same constituents as the soil gas samples. Since the probe and tubing have
already been tested, the only parts yet to be checked would be the connectors (hardware such as bolts, ferrules,
etc.). This technique is true equipment blank, because you are actually testing all the parts that will be used during the
soil gas sample. You can perform this equipment blank prior to the sampling date on January 13 or perform the
equipment blank on the same day of the soil gas sampling event in addition to the soil gas sample. If an official/true
equipment blank is not done, we may pick up a contaminant in the sample that is unexplainable. Nonetheless, if you do
and something shows up, we can trace it back to the equipment blank and determine that it came from the equipment
blank and not the sample. Please relate this to your technician, Wayne and have him call me if he needs clarification.
Thanks
Angelica
Angelica Sandoval Marin,Senior REHS
San Joaquin County, Environmental Health Department
1868 E.
