The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed Site Assessment
Work Plan (SAWP), dated 3 September 2014, prepared and submitted by your consulting firm,
Arcadis, Inc., on your behalf for the above-referenced site.
In the SAWP, Arcadis has proposed a scope of work that includes:
• Advancing five soil borings by direct push technique to collect soil samples for laboratory
analysis;
• Collecting soil samples in the depth ranges of 3 to 5 feet below surface grade (bgs), 5 to
10 feet bsg, and 9 to 9.5 feet bsg if no staining or odor is noted in the 5 and 10 feet bsg
samples;
• Chemical analysis of the soil samples for benzene and ethylbenzene by a California-
certified analytical laboratory;
• Purging water supply well DW-1 R, measuring and recording specific conductivity, volume,
temperature, pH, oxygen reduction potential (ORP), turbidity, and dissolved oxygen (DO);
• Sampling groundwater from DW-1 R utilizing a dedicated pump;
• Chemical analysis of the groundwater sample by a California-certified analytical laboratory
for total petroleum hydrocarbons - gasoline range organics (TPH-GR); benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX); methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary-butyl
alcohol (TBA), 1,2-dichlorethane (1,2-DCA), and naphthalene;
• Conducting a 6-month well transducer study utilizing eleven wells (DMW-1R, DMW-2R,
DMW-3R, DM-1R, MW-3R, MW-4, MW-6R, MW-8R, MW-9, and MW-1 OR) to improve the
conceptual site model and evaluate plume stability;
• Installing four nested soil vapor probes (SVP-1, SVP-2, SVP-3, and SVP-4) at 5 and 10
feet bsg to evaluate potential vapor intrusion to indoor air and the risk to human health;
soil samples will be collected from the probe borings between 0 and 5 feet bsg and 5 and
10 feet bsg;
• Collecting soil vapor samples from the vapor probes for analysis by a California-certified
laboratory for the following constituents: benzene, ethylbenzene, naphthalene, fixed
gases, including oxygen, carbon dioxide, methane and helium;
