Highway 99
Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Duncan:
Stratus Environmental, Inc. (Stratus), on behalf of Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO, a
BP-affiliated company), has prepared this Well Abandonment Letter Report for ARCO
Station No. 595, located at 6100 North Highway 99, Stockton, California. Groundwater
monitoring well MW-1 was abandoned in accordance with San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) regulations. The well was replaced with a
more appropriately screened monitoring well. A site plan depicting the location of well
MW-1 (supplied by Secor International Inc.) is attached. Abandonment of this well was
approved by SJCEHD in a letter dated July 28,2008.
Prior to initiating well abandonment activities, a well abandonment permit was obtained
from SJCEHD (copy attached). A licensed drilling contractor (Woodward Drilling Co.,
C-57 #710079) performed the well destruction activities. All work was completed under
the direction of Stephen J. Carter, P.G. Ms. Lori Duncan(SJCEHD) was present to observe
well abandonment activities.
On October 27, 2008 the area in the immediate vicinity of well MW-1 was excavated
using an air knife rig to approximately 5 feet bgs for utility clearance. Monitoring well
MW-1 was then destroyed on November 12, 2008 by over-drilling the entire length of the
well column. Drill cuttings were placed in drums and stored at the site pending disposal.
Following completion of the work, Stratus submitted a Well Completion Report to the
California Department of Water Resources (DWR). A copy of this report is attached.
KABP-ARCO Exmute\595\2008 Data Packages\ARCO_595_Well Abandon Ur Report.dm
