ERI 227903MI.L19 Former Unocal Service Station 5098,Stockton,California September 30, 1999
for analysis of oxygenated compounds in all wells, Unocal's records indicate that oxygenated
compounds were not used at this site. Oxygenated compound analyses have been performed on several
occasions on groundwater and soil at this site: all of which have not detected concentrations at or above
the laboratory method detection limits. Based upon this information, the County agreed that no
oxygenated compound analysis was necessary for the groundwater samples collected as part of the
supplemental environmental investigation. Based upon the forgoing, Unocal sees no further need to
analyze groundwater samples for oxygenated compounds. Please confirm in writing that this is
acceptable to the County.
"This recent report submittal is incomplete and does not comply with the requirements and
directives issued by PHS-EHD. Unocal's continued resistance to cooperate with minimum
requirements and directives issued by PHS-EHD is not appreciated and may be interpreted as
irresponsible."
Unocal requested a meeting with the County and Montgomery Ward to discuss the data provided in the
Supplemental Environmental Investigation (ERI, July 30, 1999) prior to submittal of the conclusions
and recommendations. Unocal and ERI thought that such a meeting would facilitate agreement
amongst these parties (Unocal and Montgomery Ward) regarding the most appropriate approach to
addressing groundwater conditions in the vicinity of the site. We are disappointed that the County
chose to characterize this request as "Unocal's continued resistance to cooperate with minimum
requirements and directives..."
It is Unocal and ERI's understanding that with the submittal of the Addendum to the Supplemental
Environmental Investigation (ERI, September 30, 1999), Unocal is currently in compliance with all
directives issued by the County for the subject site. If the County does not agree that Unocal is in
compliance, please advise Unocal in writing immediately so that the appropriate steps can be taken to
bring Unocal into compliance.
Please contact Mr. Glenn Matteucci, ERI's project manager for this site, at(415) 382-5994 if you have
any questions regarding this letter.
Sincerely,
Environmental) Resolutions, Inc.
i
Glenn L. Matteucci
Project Manager
Mark S. Dockum, R. ., C.E.G.
Senior Project Manager
3
