Toluene is a colorless liquid with an <br /> aromatic odor, and is flammable. The closed flash point is 400F. <br /> Toluene is insoluble in water and is soluble in most organic <br /> solvents. <br /> Potential ban ers <br /> Local harmful effects of toluene is irritation of the eyes, <br /> respiratory tract, and skin. Repeated or prolonged contact with <br /> liquid may cause removal of natural lipids from the skin, <br /> resulting in dry, fissured dermatitis. The liquid splashed in the <br /> eyes may cause irritation and reversible damage. <br /> systemic effects of acute exposure to toluene predominately may <br /> result in central nervous system depression. Symptoms and signs <br /> include headache, dizziness, fatigue, muscular weakness, drowsi- <br /> ness, incoordination with staggering gait, skin paresthesia, and <br /> coma. <br /> Points of attack are the central nervous system, liver, kidneys, <br /> and skin. <br /> Routes of Entry <br /> Inhalation of vapor, percutaneous dermal absorption of liquid, <br /> ingestion, skin and eye contact. <br /> First Aid <br /> If this chemical gets into the eyes, irrigate with water for 15 <br /> minutes immediately. If this chemical contacts the skin, wash <br /> with soap and water promptly. if person breathes in large amounts <br /> of this chemical, move the exposed person to fresh air at once and <br /> _.----.----.....................-----.._.._..._.___.perform artificial--respiration,.......if....needed.--_-When_this-_chemi.cal.__has. <br /> ' y <br />
