Hills Landfill. Disposal documentation is in Appendix C.
Destruction of Remediation System Compound and PVC Horizontal Piping
On January 5, 2012, the remediation system was removed from its compound under the direction of
' AECOM representative Jim Harms. Once the system was removed, the compound fencing was
removed and the concrete pad destroyed and the area restored into asphalt-paved parking spaces.
This work was completed on January 19, 2012 (Photo 8). The horizontal piping that connected the
' remediation system and the remediation wells was destroyed by filling the piping with grout and
capping the ends of the piping.
Soil Sampling and Analytical Testing
On January 17 and 23, 2012, two four-point composite stockpile soil samples were collected for
analysis for waste profiling purposes. Soil samples were obtained by hand excavating from 1 to 2 feet
' into the stockpile and hand-driving stainless steel sample tubes into the stockpiles at four separate
locations. The sample tubes were sealed with Teflon tape, capped, labeled, placed in a chilled ice chest
and delivered to ATL using chain-of-custody protocol for analysis by the following methods:
• Gasoline-range organics (GRO), diesel-range organics (DRO) and motor oil-range organics (ORO)
following Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) Test Method 8015B(M),
' • Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes (BTEX) and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE)
following EPA Test Method 8021, and
' • Cadmium, chromium, lead, nickel and zinc following EPA Test Method 6010B.
GRO was detected in sample Comp-2 at 7.3 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg). DRO was detected in
' samples Comp-1 and Comp-2 at respective concentrations of 210 and 3.4 mg/kg, and ORO was
detected in samples Comp-1 and Comp-2 at 1,300 and 2.6 mg/kg. Ethylbenzene and total xylenes were
detected in sample Comp-2 at 20 and 17 micrograms per kilogram (µg/kg), respectively. Benzene,
' toluene and MTBE were not detected at concentrations exceeding their respective laboratory reporting
limits for each of the samples analyzed.
' Samples Comp-1 and Comp-2 contained chromium, lead, nickel, and zinc at concentrations ranging from
3.5 to 80 mg/kg which do not exceed California Code of Regulations Title 22 hazardous waste criteria.
Cadmium was not detected at a concentration equal to or exceeding the laboratory RL of 1.0 mg/kg for
' either sample.
Soil analytical data is summarized on Table 6. Laboratory reports and chain-of-custody documentation
' are in Appendix D.
Copies of the completed California Department of Water Resources (DWR) Well Completion Reports
were received by the DWR North Central District and the SJCEHD on February 23,2012.
' Project No.59482-06-02 -5- March 30,2012
