FILE C <br /> � 1000-A ORTEGA WAY • PLACENTIA, CA 92670-7125 <br /> 7141632-8521 FAX. 7141632-6754 <br /> September 16, 1996 <br /> Project No 1232 <br /> Michaellnfurna <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> Environmental Health Division <br /> P O Box 2009 <br /> 1601 East Hazelton Avenue <br /> Stockton, CA 95201-6229 <br />' RE ADDENDUM TO SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION PILOT STUDY WORK PLAN <br /> Montgomery Ward Auto Service Center <br /> 5400 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA <br />' (Site Code 2163) <br /> Dear Mr Infurna <br /> This letter will serve as an Addendum to the Soil Vapor Extraction Pilot Study Work Plan <br /> (dated August 2, 1996) prepared by Environmental Audit, Inc (EAI) for the above-referenced <br /> site This Addendum was prepared to address San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br />' (County Health) comments regarding the Work Plan as outlined in County Health's letter dated <br /> August 9, 1996 <br />' Vertical Extent of Soil Contamination <br /> As requested, the boring for vapor extraction well VEW-1B will be extended to a depth of 65 <br />' feet below ground surface (bgs) (see Work Plan, Figure 10) Additional soil samples will be <br /> collected at depth of 50, 55, 60 and 65 feet bgs Note that most of these soil samples will be <br /> collected from intervals below the current depth to ground water (saturated zone) beneath the <br /> site These soil samples will be tested for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G) <br />' by modified EPA Method 8015, and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) and <br /> methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) by EPA Method 8020 If MTBE is detected in any of the <br /> soil samples by EPA Method 8020, it will be quantified in selected samples by EPA Method <br /> 8260 <br /> To address County Health concerns regarding the vertical extent of contamination between the <br /> two plumes, i e , former underground storage tanks (USTs) location and former fuel islands <br /> location, soil vapor probe SP-7B will be drilled to 65 feet bgs (see Work Plan, Figure 10) <br /> Additional soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals from depths of 35 to 65 feet bgs <br /> Note that soil samples collected from depths greater than 50 feet bgs will be collected from <br /> within the saturated zone These samples will be tested for TPH-G, BTEX and MTBE as <br /> described above <br /> PLANNING, ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSES AND <br /> HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES MANAGEMENT AND REMEDIATION <br />
