1
SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION PILOT STUDY WORK PLAN San Joaquin County
Montgomery Ward Auto Service Center Public Health Services Department
5400 Pacific Avenue, Stockton,CA Site Code 2163
1
Three major pilot test scenarios are planned as follows
' ■ The first test scenario will involve one extraction well (VEW-IA or VEW-113) Well
VEW-1A will be connected to the vapor extraction unit Air flow, vacuum pressure
and vapor concentrations (using PID) will be measured at the VES manifold
' immediately after the unit is started These will serve as the baseline soil vapor values
Readings will be repeated at 15-minute intervals until four consecutive reading show
that steady state conditions have been reached At that point, one vapor sample will be
' collected for laboratory analysis Vacuum and vapor concentration measurements also
will be recorded at each soil probe and at the other extraction well (VEW-1B) EAI
will repeat this procedure with well VEW-1B as the active extraction well and VEW-
' 1A as a passive measurement point
■ The second test scenario will be essentially the same as the first one except VEW-2 will
be used as the extraction well
' ■ The third test scenario will involve both extraction wells After achieving steady state
with the extraction well VEW-2, VEW-1A and VEW-113 will also be connected to the
I vapor extraction system The parameters specified earlier will be recorded in 15
minutes intervals until steady state is reached for both wells together
In addition to the above, the following parameters also will be documented
a Utility and fuel usage rates and amounts,
■ Ambient monitoring of breathing zone, and
■ Logs of all field activities
3 5 2 Laboratory Analyses Of Vapor Samples
The vapor samples collected will be sent to a certified laboratory for analysis by EPA Method
TO-14 Results reported by this analysis includes TPH-G and BTEX
4.0 REPORTING
I The results of the pilot study will be contained in a report The report will include, but not be
limited to, the following
■ Background,
■ Soil analytical results,
■ ■ VES wells and probes layout,
■ Pilot tests performed and data obtained,
■ Analysis of data and interpretation,
■ Recommendations for design and installation of final VES,
■ Recommendations for operation and maintenance of final VES, and
I m Recommendations of closure criteria
The report will include figures, graphs and tables All field and laboratory data will be
included in appendices
I
Project No 1232 - 6 - ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT, INC
