' SECOND QUARTER 1998 GROUND WATER MONITORING REPORT San Joaquin County <br /> Montgomery Ward Auto Service Center Public Health Services Department <br /> 5400 Pacific Avenue Stockton, CA Site Code 2163 <br />' 2 2 GROUND WATER SAMPLING <br />' On June 24-25, 1998, ground water samples were collected by EAI from all ground water <br /> monitoring wells associated with the Montgomery Ward site Additionally, EAI sampled four <br /> of the vapor extraction wells (Wells VEW-2B, VEW-3, VEW-4 and VEW-5) at the Site since <br /> these wells were screened at the ground water level (Well VEW-213 is screened at 35 to 50 ft <br /> and wells VEW-3, VEW-4 and VEW-5 are screened at 20 to 30 ft and 40 to 50 ft) Wells <br /> VEW-1A (screened at 10 to 25 ft ) and VEW-2 (screened at 15 to 35 ft ) were not sampled <br /> since they are screened above the ground water level Well VEW-113 was not sampled since it <br />' contained equipment which made the well water Inaccessible to sample <br /> Prior to sampling, the wells were purged using a Grundfos MP-1 submersible pump <br /> Temperature, conductivity, pH, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen were recorded to evaluate the <br />' effectiveness of purging activities (see Appendix A) The wells were sampled in the order that <br /> purging activities were completed Water samples were collected from each well from Just <br /> below the water surface using Voss Technologies disposable bottom bailers equipped with <br />' volatile organic compound sampling tips The use of these bailers precludes the potential for <br /> cross-contamination <br />' On June 24, 1998, the Delta College well was sampled through a sample port located on the <br /> extraction well <br /> Each water sample was sealed in three 40-1-nilliliter volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials with <br /> Teflon septa lined lids The VOA vials were completely filled so that no head space existed <br /> between the sample and the lids The samples were labeled with the sample point <br /> identification, preservative added, if any, date, time and EAI project number, and immediately <br />' placed into a chilled ice chest The samples were kept chilled until delivered to the laboratory <br /> for analytical testing All samples were logged on a chain of custody record form (see <br /> Appendix B) <br />' 2 3 SAMPLING EQUIPMENT CLEANING PROTOCOL <br /> The submersible pump and hose system (Equipment), used only to purge the wells prior to <br />' sampling, was decontaminated between each event using the following procedure <br /> ■ The Equipment was flushed in a solution of Alconox detergent and tap water, and <br />' ■ The Equipment was flushed with tap water <br /> 2 4 EFFLUENT HANDLING <br /> All effluent generated during purging, sampling and equipment decontamination activities was <br /> sealed in labeled 55-gallon drums The drums were stored in a secured area on the <br /> Montgomery Ward site pending proper disposal <br />' Project No 1232 - 2 - ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT, INC <br />
