Kennedy/Jenks Consultants <br /> Groundwater in the vicinity of the Facility moves from southeast to northwest. Because the <br /> existing monitoring wells are downgradient of groundwater moving through the Facility area, <br /> separating the groundwater effects of the current LAA practices from the regional groundwater <br /> impacts of the neighboring agricultural and industrial practices is not currently possible. <br /> Additional monitoring wells are required in order to characterize background conditions <br /> upgradient of the site. Therefore, MW-4 is proposed for the southern part of the Facility <br /> (Figure 14) in order to assess the quality of the groundwater migrating from the land adjacent to, <br /> and immediately upgradient of, the Facility. MW-1 and MW-3 are considered to be hydraulically <br /> downgradient (or cross-gradient) of the process water land application areas and upgradient of <br /> sanitary wastewater septic tank and leach field systems. Therefore, MW-5 is proposed for the <br /> area downgradient of the septic tank and leach field systems. This monitoring well will be <br /> located in the northwest corner of the Facility, representing the farthest downgradient position. <br /> Routine quarterly groundwater monitoring will continue for a complete assessment of <br /> groundwater conditions at each of the five onsite monitoring wells, and standard minerals and <br /> other constituents will be analyzed on an annual basis, as specified in MRP Order No. 95-097. <br /> Construction of the new monitoring wells will provide soil data that will supplement the existing <br /> soil data provided by boring logs from MW-1, -2, and -3. Lithology of each borehole will be <br /> classified by sampling soil every 5 feet, beginning at 20 feet bgs, and using a 2-inch diameter by <br /> 18-inch long split-spoon sampler. <br /> 3.3 Field Activities <br /> The following groundwater monitoring field activities will be conducted at the Facility: drilling and <br /> installing monitoring wells, developing the wells, collecting groundwater samples from <br /> monitoring wells and production wells for analysis, and CPT borings. These field activities will <br /> be conducted in accordance with Groundwater Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP)found in <br /> Appendix C and are described in the following sections. <br /> 3.3.1 Pre-Field Activities <br /> Kennedy/Jenks will perform the following pre-field activities prior to commencing fieldwork at the <br /> Facility. <br /> 1. Prepare a site-specific Health and Safety Plan. <br /> 2. Obtain well installation permits from the San Joaquin County. <br /> 3. Survey the proposed boring locations for potential location conflicts with subsurface <br /> utilities by performing a utility clearance check prior to drilling. The survey will be done <br /> by contacting USA Alert for utility clearance two working days before the scheduled <br /> fieldwork. In addition, a private subsurface utility locating service will perform a search <br /> for underground utilities at the proposed drilling locations. <br /> 4. Contract with a C-57 licensed drilling contractor to perform field work. <br /> 5.
